Warung Bakso Jamur Ubud

Warung Bakso Jamur UbudThe Warung Bakso Jamur is another new restaurant, located in Nyuh Kuning, on Jln Raya Nyuh Kuning not far from the Bali Cultural Centre (BCC).

As the restaurant name implies, their speciality is mushroom soup, and that is pretty much all you can get. The food is very delicious, and the place clean and cheap. If you are after a bowl of bakso, this is a good option rather than the roadside setups that may not have as good a hygiene standard.

The restaurant is run by some local disabled people, and you eating here helps to support their group. They also have some products available to purchase which can also help support them.

Warung Bali Balo Review

Bali Balo Nyuh Kuning Warung BaliWarung Bali Balo is located on the busy Jl Raya Nyuh Kuning. There is a small amount of parking to the side of the entrance for a bike or car.

It is a cosy place, nestled into the front of a family compound. Budhi has good English and his mum (I think) does the cooking.  The set up is actually quite thoughtful, even though it seems basic, there is some very nice art work on the walls.

There is the usual array of drinks, nothing out of the ordinary. We had some mango juice and a fresh coconut.

I wasn’t feeling that hungry, but the serves were substantial, and in the end I was totally full. We ordered steamed greens which came with a satay sauce. Although you can order a number of sauces with any of your meals, from satay, sambal, tomato, sweet chili, fresh spicy…

The pork sates were tender and the sauce was yummy.

A slight difference with lilit sate being served with the fried rice. Rob really enjoyed this rice dish, it was better than average. Bali Balo Nyuh Kuning Warung Bali

Ikan pepes, minced fish cooked in banana leaf, was a very decent serve, and also very tasty.

Bali Balo Nyuh Kuning Warung BaliCassava Rice (Tipat), which is plain rice cooked with small cubes of cassava, just for something different.

The food and service was all good, large serves for a very reasonable price. The setting is nice, although a bit noisy next to the busy road, but we’ll definitely come back again!

Trattoria Ubud Review

Trattoria Pizza Restuarant Nyuh KuningTrattoria is an Italian restaurant chain that has 16 branches mostly in South East Asia. They must be doing something right to have so many successful stores. Lucky for us, one is just down the road from our house.

On arrival you will be served bruschetta and 3 different types of bread, all complimentary! Got to love some free food!

The  menu has a large selection of good pizza options. The pizza are a traditional Italian style with a thin base, but large enough to still be filling. They do some extra-large (some may say giant in fact) pizzas with half and half, if you can get the right match these are a winner.

Two in one

Trattoria Pizza Restuarant Nyuh KuningThe baked eggplant Parmigiana stack, was super tasty but a little oily, and very filling. It was best shared as a side with some pizza.

Trattoria Pizza Restuarant Nyuh KuningOf course they do pasta too, which is very authentic and tasty.

Trattoria Pizza Restuarant Nyuh KuningWe also had breakfast here one day, but it was unfortunately not very good. They served the overcooked eggs with thin white loaf bread, that just crumbled on the plate.

Trattoria Pizza Restuarant Nyuh KuningIt is a fairly kid friendly place because, firstly most kids love pizza. But also because the plain brown paper place-mats are perfect drawing pads for the creative munchkins, not sure if that is the intention however it works for us! Buon Appetito.

Warung Be Pasih, Nyuh Kuning – Review

warung de pasihA cute little local warung has just opened up down the road from our villa. Warung Be Pasih is a seafood restaurant, and it is Balinese for seafood. In the sleepy village of Nyuh Kuning south of Ubud through the monkey forest, the restaurant is just up from the football field, next to Go Bali tourist shop and opposite a temple.

today’s menu

The menu is hand-written on a whiteboard, and may change regularly depending on what is available. It is all in Indonesian, so have your phrase book ready if you don’t know the language. The furniture is very basic to fit with the menu. The building has a tin roof and was stifling hot when we went during the ‘build up’ season. Not a great design for this environment, although for the price you pay for the food, you can’t expect much!

There was not a lot to choose from, and without much of a description its pot luck what you get. Clare chose the Lawar Gurita, a salad of octopus and seaweed. Both elements were chopped very small and mixed together with spices. The texture was very interesting but flavoursome none-the-less. It was very spicy too, as expected.

The seaweed had a real crunch to it, and once you get over the texture the taste is not too bad.

Rob ordered the Pepes Tuna. It was only 2000 rp per piece, so we weren’t sure how many to order. The friendly wait staff advised 5, so Rob decided on 6, and he ended up bringing out 4. Communication breakdown typical of Bali! The tuna wrapped in banana leaf was served cold, but was spicy and tasty.

If you want to try some real local food, this place is worth a look. Very good budget meal option.
